These definitions explain how to read published result records. They are not instructions for betting, which is illegal in most of India. Each entry gives the term, its Hindi form, a neutral meaning and where the meaning comes from. Dictionary meanings are from Platts' Dictionary of Urdu, Classical Hindi and English (1884) and McGregor's Oxford Hindi-English Dictionary. Symbols such as XX and WAIT have no official definition, so we give the meaning used on this site. For the bigger picture, start with What is Satta King? and how to read a record chart.
A–Z of terms
Abbreviations: DSWR, FRBD, GZBD, GALI
Short column headings used on some charts: DSWR = Desawar, FRBD = Faridabad, GZBD = Ghaziabad, GALI = Gali. Our charts use full names. Source: observed on result tables.
Bazar बाज़ार
Bāzār means "market". Results sites often call each game a "bazar", as in Delhi Bazar, and each one has its own result time. Source: Platts.
Chart / Record chart चार्ट
A table of past results for one or more games, usually one row per date and one column per game. A chart is a historical record only: it shows what was published and cannot predict future results. Our charts are on the record charts page. Source: this site.
Declared / Published
The result has appeared at or after the game's scheduled time and has been recorded. We use "declared result", never "winning number". Source: this site.
Desawar देसावर / दिसावर
The name of one of the long-running games on the charts, also spelled Disawar or Dishawar, declared early in the morning. The Hindi-Urdu word disāwar means "a foreign country" or "a foreign market". Why the game carries this name is not documented. See the Desawar result page and what the names mean. Source: Platts; Rekhta.
Gali गली
The name of another long-running game, declared late at night. Galī is the Hindi word for a lane or alley. Stories that the game began in a particular Delhi lane have no source. See the Gali result page. Source: McGregor; Platts.
Game time / Result time
The time at which a game's result is usually published, shown in IST. Times are approximate and can vary by a few minutes. Every game's time is listed in result times of all games. Source: this site.
Jodi जोड़ी
Jodi is a Hindi word meaning "pair". On result charts it refers to the two-digit result, from 00 to 99, published for a game on a date. Source: Platts ("a pair, couple"); McGregor; Wikipedia ("any pair of two digits between 00 and 99").
Matka मटका
Matka means an earthen pot. "Satta Matka" is the name of a number-betting game that began in Bombay in the early 1960s, after betting on New York cotton rates stopped; numbers were reportedly drawn from a pot, which gave it its name. It is a separate family of games from Satta King. See Satta Matka vs Satta King and the history guide. Source: Platts; Wikipedia; PTI.
Monthly chart / Yearly chart
The same records grouped by period: a monthly chart shows one month for several games; a yearly chart shows one game for a whole year, with days as rows and months as columns. Source: this site.
Old result / Previous day
The previous day's declared result, shown beside today's on result tables. Older results are in the record charts. Source: this site.
Panel chart / Panna (matka only)
In Matka-style games each result has three parts: an "open" three-digit number (panna or patti), a two-digit jodi, and a "close" panna. A panel chart is a historical table that records all three parts for each day. Satta King games have no panna; their record is one two-digit number. Source: Wikipedia.
Result
The two-digit number published for a game on a given date after its scheduled time. Source: this site.
Satta सट्टा
Satta is a Hindi word whose dictionary meanings include a commercial transaction, a written agreement, a market and speculation. In everyday Indian usage, and in news reports, it refers to illegal betting on numbers. Source: McGregor; Platts.
Satta King सट्टा किंग
"Satta King" is used in two ways. On result websites it is a catch-all name for a family of daily number games (Gali, Desawar, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and others) and their published results. In news reports, it usually means a person: the alleged kingpin of a betting racket. Ratan Khatri, for example, was widely called the "Matka King". Source: The Tribune; PTI.
WAIT
On this site, WAIT means today's declaration time for the game has passed but the number is not in yet. It changes to the number by itself once recorded. A double dash (--) means the result is due later today. Source: this site's legend.
XX
On this site, XX means no result is recorded for that game on that date: the game did not run, or no result was published. Other sites sometimes use XX differently, which is why we print our legend on every chart. Source: this site's legend.
Terms we do not explain, and why
Some words found on satta pages describe how bets are placed, priced or "guessed". Explaining them would be betting instruction, so this glossary leaves them out:
- rates, bhav and payout figures;
- khaiwal (a person who takes bets) and agent lists;
- andar/bahar haruf, palti, crossing, SP/DP/TP and similar bet types;
- ank, "tips", "leak", "fix" and "guessing" numbers.
Haruf itself comes from the Arabic-Urdu ḥarf, "letter" or "character"; our charts show only the full two-digit result. Anyone selling "tips", "leak" or "fix" numbers is running a scam: read how the scam works.
